There are so many organizations out there for women and for minority groups. I think these organizations are wonderful. It gives people a place to belong, a support group and also motivation to thrive.
Since the industrial revolution the world has been ruled by white males. (Since the beginning of time if you are looking at only males) And because of this, historically white males didn’t need organizations such as these. It was a man’s world so why bother giving them more of a leg up than they already had?
The other day I read an article about an organization for men at the University of Chicago.

As you would assume, there are many people who are against this organization. They are saying why would men need an organization to help them get ahead in life?
I say that while it is true that the world is still ruled by white males, it doesn’t mean that life is any easier if you are a white male than if you are a female of a different culture. There are many fields that are female dominated. I have never seen nor heard of a men’s organization in design, art or education.
The thing is, just because a field is dominated by one group of people doesn’t mean that it is any easier an individual of that group to succeed. You still need to get good grades, you still need to work hard, you still need the talent and skills and no matter who you are.
In college I was a part of a student organization Women in Computer Science. I was even an officer if the organization despite being male. The relationships connections and experiances I had within the organization was so helpful in the development of my skills and myself as a person. I know that I couldn’t have accomplished as much as I did without WCS.
It is a hard and difficult world for everyone including white males and I think it is time that men get an organization for themselves.
